Users & Society
Designing to create value for people requires one to possess the skills and qualities needed to involve the user at the core of the design process in an ethical way. Through my projects I have learned how to navigate the processes of ethical review and design studies that fall under minimal risk categories.
I have practiced numerous methods of collecting, processing and analysing quantitative qualitative data from interviews, surveys, user tests and cultural probe kits during my study. This includes methodologies like ethnography, narrative analysis, thematic analysis (inductive and deductive) and more. Learning when to use which method and why has also been a big part of my experience. The analysis of quantitative data links this expertise area closely to that of MDC.
Understanding the position of a design in the historical perspective was something that I learnt about during the elective of ‘Architecture & the City’ in year two, learning about how a design is influenced by what came before and how it influences what is next.
